Bullies: Threats, Abuse, and Intimidation.

What's being done about it?

Hang on for a minute...we're trying to find some more stories you might like.

October is Anti-Bullying month in Kentucky. It’s one month dedicated to raising awareness for a problem that happens all year in our schools.  For some students, the threats and intimidation are daily.

The Kentucky Center for School Safety was created to studies the problem, find solutions and provide resources for students across the state.

This year’s theme is Get Involved and Get it Solved

But how do you do that? It starts with knowing what bullying is.

“Bullying” as defined by KY state law means any unwanted verbal, physical, or social behavior among students that involves a real or perceived power imbalance and is repeated or has the potential to be repeated:
1. That occurs on school premises, on school-sponsored transportation, or at a school-sponsored event; or
2. That disrupts the education process.

It can happen in person, on line, or spreading verbal threats.

We are dedicating our official launch of our Phoenix Oracle website to this important issue.

  • Our staff believes our stories connect us.
  • We believe there is hope in the stories we tell.
  • We believe stories can educate and raise awareness.
  • We know you are not alone.

As you explore our website you will find personal stories from students who are brave to share. Some of those students have been a victim, others admit they were the bully. We invite you to keep an open mind. Throw out the stereotype that bullies are “bad”. They have their own stories to tell about why they did what they did.

You will also find candid discussions in the form of podcast, photo essays, and opinion pieces, and a poll we invite you to take.

We hope our coverage of this important crisis in our schools opens your eyes.

There is a wealth of information on  KY Center for School Safety  website. You can see what the statistics are from county to county.  There’s also information about drug abuse, gangs, sexting, suicide, and parent aggression.  We encourage anyone who needs help to use the resources that are available.
