Daegan Bush: The Passionate Student Athlete

Daniel Elliott

An incoming freshman at Woodford County high school is dedicated to be great! Daegan Bush is an all around athlete but he is mainly focused on football and basketball.

Since he was young, Bush had a passion for sports. His dream growing up was to be like one of those guys we see on the TV. Bush said, “I’ve always wanted to be a pro at something why not sports?”

Why not him? He’s a hard worker who takes zero days off. He’s always either shooting the basketball or passing the football even during the offseason. Bush stays busy for a reason.

“It’s like a job man. I feel like if I stop I’m not doing my job”.”

Being a student athlete is hard work, but Bush makes his job look easy. Bush isn’t just focused on being a better player.  He is always working on becoming a better student.  “I’d be lying if I said my GPA was a 4.0. I’m just doing my best to make sure I keep my agility,” he said. When his grades start to drop he always takes a break from sports and goes to tutoring.

He’s not just a good kid on the field. He is also a very nice guy off the field as we’ll, the type of guy scouts look for. He mets all the requirements to be a college athlete as a 8th grader!

The future looks bright for Bush and he knows it’s going to take a lot more work to make his dream come true to be a professional athlete. His motivation? “We’ll my family and friends and my love for the game. God has blessed me a lot,” he said.

While family motivates, there are pros who have inspired him.  “Bo Jackson is one of those guy’s because he played multiple sports”.  J.J Watt is another one he’s looked up to. Bush is mainly a defensive player and I can definitely see the comparison.

There are many of us wishing him well as he moves  forward.  I know he’s the next guy up.  Bush is a very special person and it was a pleasure to get a chance to interview him. FB_IMG_1454329785447
