Lexington Comic Con 2016

Alexandria Stilley, Writer

Hang on for a minute...we're trying to find some more stories you might like.

March 11th-13th was Lexington’s annual Comic Con. I have been trying to go to this event for the past 3 years and this was my first chance to go, and I was not disappointed.

Now I know that when you think of Comic Con, you probably think of a bunch of geeks dressing up in ridiculous costumes and walking around fangirl/boying about all the things from their favorite movies, shows, games, and/or anime. Though that is true, it is also much more than that. It is a huge group of people all gathering to talk about things that they like.

The main thing about the convention that surprised me was the fact that I didn’t hear a single mean thing the entire time I was there. That is something that is very rare in today’s society. All it was was a bunch of people talking and having a nice time. I even had full conversations with strangers, which may not seem like a big deal to most people, but I am extremely shy so I don’t normally just talk to people. The whole place was just filled with positivity because everyone was happy to be there.

Me and my friends chose to Cosplay because, why not? We went on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday I went as the White Rabbit, my friend Amber was the Mad Hatter, and then our third friend,

Alexis, was supposed to be the Cheshire Cat, but she couldn’t get the costume together in time so she ended up going as Mirajane which is a character from Fairytales, an anime she watches.

Alexis(Castiel), Me(Dean), and Ben(Sam)

The next day we went as characters from Supernatural. I went as Dean, Alexis went as Castiel, and our friend Ben went as Sam.

Karen Gillan’s Autograph

At the Convention I got to meet two incredible people, Sylvester McCoy (7th Doctor in Doctor Who and Radagast from The Hobbit) and Karen Gillan (Amy Pond from Doctor Who and Nebula from Guardians of the Galaxy). We got a group picture with Sylvester McCoy and I got Karen Gillan’s Autograph

Overall, Me and My friends had a blast at Lexington Comic Con, and even if I can not go to the convention here, I will try my best to go to the one in wherever I am next year. If you ever have a chance to go to one, I highly recommend it, I guarantee it will be worth it!
